Peru's "New Wonder of the World" celebrates 100 years since Hiram Bingham


The "big event" will be on July 7th, the date that Machu Picchu was named as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.  The festivities will include concerts, presentations, lights and much more.  Celebrities like Paul McCartney are being scheduled for the events which take place over five days.  There are other activities happening this year to mark the 100th anniversary since the rediscovery of one of the world's most amazing archaeological ruins.  Cuzco will be site of a joint research center with Yale University, where many artifacts from Machu Picchu have been stored for almost 100 years.  The university has agreed to begin its return of than 4000 objects, including pottery, texti les and bones upon completion of the inventory of the pieces.
