Hacienda Concepción - A New Jungle Lodge

 

This is a new jungle lodge recently opened in Madre de Dios Amazon región. This property owned and runned “By Inkaterra” will be a good value for money.  Located on the riverbank of Madre de Dios river, across the river from Reserva Amazónica, it is meant to be a standard category version of Reserva Amazónica.  Nicely built and decorated, comfortable rooms and en suite bathrooms.  Activities included in the price of the stay are the same provided to clients staying at Reserva Amazónica, namely, the Canopy Walk, Lake Sandoval cruise and others mentioned in the below list of activities. EXCURSIONS:


CONCEPCION TRAILS

Walk through the trails inside Hacienda Concepcion. Interpretation of  primary and secondary rain forest: its components, uses and transformations by the human being, and its relevance for the world. Approximately 2-hour walk.


BAMBOO TRAIL

Walk towards Hacienda Concepcion Bamboo Trail. 15- minutes walk towards the bamboo patch. Interpretation of bird and animal life specific to bamboo: their behavior, feeding, characteristics. Explanation of the use of bamboo patches in locals everyday life.


TWILIGHT RIVER

Cruise on the Madre de Dios River. Interpretation of the river ecosystem and Amazon creeks, as well as of the southern hemisphere sky. Approximately 2-hour cruise depending on the weather and river conditions.


RAINFOREST BY NIGHT

Walk in the Hacienda Concepcion trail system. Interpretation of the secondary forest during the night. Approximately 2- hour walk.


BOTANICAL GARDEN

Walk through Hacienda Concepcion Botanical Garden and Fitzcarrald Boat. Learn to identify medicinal plants, their importance in local medicine as well as its benefits and practical uses. Walk 15 minutes towards the remains of the Fitzcarrald boat. Historical interpretation of the boat remains, the rubber tree industry and the filming of “Fitzcarraldo”. Head back to the lodge.


BUTTERFLY HOUSE

Visit the INKATERRA butterfly house. There several of the 3,800 Peruvian species are preserved and reproduced. Transfer by bus.


MAMMAL CLAY LICKS

Clay Lick sighting. Walk 15 to 20 minutes toward one of Hacienda Concepcion mammal clay licks. Interpretation of the clay lick activity: importance, need and behavior. Explanation of the difference in clay licks and their location. Return to the lodge.


LAKE SANDOVAL

Navigation in canoe around Lake Sandoval. 50-minute walk towards the Tambopata National Reserve and 1-hour walk through “terra firma” forest. Environmental interpretation of the reserve, forest and oxbow lake. Return to the lodge by foot. (Access to discretion during months of rain).


INKATERRA CANOPY WALKWAY & ANACONDA WALK

Visit the interpretation center and walk through treetops and wetlands. 25- minute transfer by boat to the INKATERRA CANOPY WALKWAY interpretation center to learn about its construction and INKATERRA ASSOCIATION (ITA) conservation projects. Ascend the towers and cross the bridges that connect the treetops. 15-minute walk towards the Anaconda Walk wetlands. Interpretation of flooded ecosystems and observation of fauna. Return to lodge by boat


CANOE RIDE

Canoe ride on the Hacienda Concepción Lake. Flora and fauna sightings. Environmental interpretation of the ecosystem. Native fishing as well as explanation of the “catch and release” experience. Return to the lodge.
